Fire Safety Regulations (England)

Building fires can be devastating and even fatal. A correctly specified, installed, and maintained fire door can save buildings and ultimately save lives.

Here at Principal Doorsets, we are proud to be certificated to the highest standard for the manufacture of fire doors. Put simply, when you purchase a fire door that is made here on our Barnstaple manufacturing site by our experienced and highly skilled workforce, you will have peace of mind that you have made a safe investment. With more than 400 combined years in the supply of performance timber doorsets, we are extremely proud of our position as the UK’s Premier Doorset Manufacturer.

Selecting the correct door can be a life-or-death responsibility and we can help you make the right choice. Our Director, Stan Bond explains more:

The specifying of fire doors can be a complex element of any construction or refurbishment project. Function and rating of fire doors is a vital preventative measure, therefore, it is paramount that the doors comply with legal safety standards, to protect lives and property. To ensure that the doors meet the critical standards required, it is reassuring to verify that both the manufacturer and installer have independent, UKAS accredited, third-party certification.

“We are proud of our third-party manufacturing certification as it demonstrates that we have undergone a rigorous audit and testing process, conducted by an impartial accredited body.”

The correct specification, fitting and maintenance of fire doors is the responsibility of each, and every person involved in the process from specification through to maintenance.

With new regulations that came in to force on the 23 January 2023, there are now requirements for ‘responsible persons’ of all multi-occupied residential buildings to undertake annual checks of entry doors and quarterly checks of all fire doors in common areas. In addition, residents must be provided with information relating to the importance of fire doors in fire safety.

The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 are now law and form part of a package of sensible, risk mitigating fire safety measures that the government is delivering following the Grenfell Tower fire, to keep the public safe.

By specifying a third-party certified “integrated fire doorset” manufactured product from us, you can be assured in the quality of the doorsets performance and have peace of mind that you have made a commercially sound investment.
